Upcoming OMEC Meetings The Oregon Mathematics Education Council meets next in May, 2009 (Date TBD). Draft Standards for High School Mathematics At its latest meeting, OMEC members proposed further revisions to the draft standards for High School Mathematics. This input, along with input from other Mathematics professional development and membership organizations was used by the Departement of Education is creating the final draft of the Oregon Core Mathematics Content Standards for High School. This will be presented to the State Board of Education in April 2009. Elementary Mathematics Teaching Competencies This is the latest draft of Elementary Mathematics Teaching Competencies. Updated Draft Standards for Math Endorsement Competencies for Middle School and Secondary Teachers The final drafts of Basic and Advanced Math Endorsement Competencies for middle school and high school teachers are available in PDF format. OMEC Teacher Preparation Guidelines Released This summer, OMEC approved guidelines for the preparation of mathematics teachers in Oregon. Click here to get the PDF document. OMEC Mission The mission of the Oregon Mathematics Education Council (OMEC) is to propose, through intersegmental study and deliberation, recommendations to improve the learning environment in mathematics in Oregon schools at all levels, early childhood throug h college, and to sponsor activities and proposals to improve the pre-service and in-service training of teachers, classroom instruction, and articulation of the curriculum at all levels.
